Biography

Originally from Buckie, Gordon is the son of former Aberdeen player Willie Laing. He spent five years as an integral part of a dominant Elgin City, who had won the Highland League no fewer than four times during his time with the Borough Briggs side. He was released by Elgin at the end of the 1969-70 season due to a propsoed work transfer that would see him work in the Edinburgh office of the Inland Revenue from October 1970, limiting his availability.

Beating Brora Rangers to his signature, Nairn County signed him on a short term deal in July 1970 to play with the club until their involvement in the Scottish Cup concluded. Despite a good start to the season, Gordon got word of his transfer in September and first team opportunity became limited. By December, the expense of Gordon making a 300 mile from Edinburgh to Nairn each week proved too much for the club and they issued the player with a notice that they would not be using him again.
