Charlie Kennedy

Hailing from the shinty stronghold of Foyers, Charlie began his sporting days with Boleskin Shinty Club while playing football for Dores United in the summer months. His first Highland League foray came with Clachnacuddin after being snapped up at the age of 19. He quickly became recognized for his prolific goalscoring as a centre forward netting sixty goals in two seasons at Grant Street Park. In May 1968 he made a short lived switch to Elgin City for an undisclosed transfer fee, but unable to break into the starting eleven, he moved to Nairn in late December that same year.

Charlie finished as Nairn's top scorer at the end of the 1969-70 season and by that time he had notched over 100 goals in the Highland League - while still only 22 years of age. Even more remarkable, he achieved such a feat while adopting various positions in the team, including goalkeeper, deputizing for Kenny Mackenzie on occasion.

Off-season, Charlie continued to spend his summers on his first love of shinty and became a highly decorated Camanachd player in doing so, mostly playing with Lochaber.
