John joined Nairn County from Brora Rangers in 2010 and won the Highland League Cup in his maiden season at Station Park. The second of his two winners' medals came in the 2012 North of Scotland Cup final, when he came off the bench to net an extra time winner in a 2-1 success over Wick Academy at Grant Street.

He remained at Station Park for six seasons, enjoying his most prolific spell in front of goal in the 2012-13 season. After having spent a loan spell at Fort William during the latter half of the 2015-16 season, John left the club to join Forres Mechanics.
