Match Report

Nairn brushed aside Irish side Dungannon in their last pre-season warm up game despite a sluggish start. The home side started badly and had keeper Rae to thank for his save that pushed the Dungannon shot onto the post. But Nairn went behind when the referee awarded a soft penalty to the Irish visitors on 15 minutes conceeded by Dave Macdonald which was easily placed past County keeper Michael Rae. Nairn started to come into the game when Willie Barron came close but his shot went just over. Nairn continued their progression into the came when Steven Sanderson was introduced and got a well deserved equalizer when Scott Kellacher finished off a good one touch football move by hammering the ball home from 25 yards after 34 minutes.

Nairn went onto to press more in the second half and created a string of chances, the best of these falling to Holmes, Sanderson and Kellacher. They then took a deserved lead on 70 minutes when Farquhar hit the by line and edged a cross to Holmes who layed it off to Sanderson to slam home from 18 yards out. County again came close when Steven Edwards was unlucky from a corner to see his header come back off the bar. Dungannon created there only chance of the second half on 87 minutes when a chip over Rae bounced off of the cross bar and over for a goal kick. But the icing was put on the cake when Sanderson got his second of the night on 88 minutes by squeezing a loose ball through a ruck of Dungannon players from 15 yards out after a Holmes cross from the right was scuffed by Kellacher as he attempted a first time volley at the back post.

Nairn will be looking to carry this good form into this Wednesday's Inverness Cup tie at home to Elgin a game in which they will blood the younger players as it is an under 21 competition with 5 over aged players allowed.
