County made it 3 league wins in 3 games with a 3-0 victory over Wick at Station Park. In the process they maintained their unbeaten record for 2003 and avenged their 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Scorries up in Wick.
The game started as it would continue with Nairn in total control. They passed up a number of half chances before Farquhar showed the rest how it was done by opening the scoring on 19 minutes. Willie Barron made a powerful run down the left before leaving the Wick defence for dead by cutting in. He played the ball into Sanderson who in turn layed it back perfectly into Farquhar's stride for him to slot the ball home from 12 yards.
A poor remainder to the half saw both sides trying to carve out an opening but there were no clear cut chances created.
The second half started as the first had finished with Nairn in control of possession in the middle of the park but not able to create any chances. Wick lost their keeper to injury and the sub stopper was immediately called into action to make a great point blank save from Sanderson. Nairn did make it 2 though, minutes later, when Sanderson slotted home a cross from the left leaving the keeper with no chance. This all but killed off the game as a contest and all Nairn were interested in doing now was running down the clock and keeping possession of the ball.
Wick's best chance of the game fell to Steven Reid on the edge of the box but his shot was comfortably saved by Rae. County did score a deserved third goal when Sanderson achieved his brace with a minute to go. A ball forward to substitute Edwards, who was returning from a 4 match suspension. was won in the air by the Wick defender but fell straight to Farquhar who played the ball into the box for Sanderson to strike home into the roof of the net. Wick's misery was compounded when they were reduced to 10 men when they had a man dismissed for making a needless challenge on Gareth Smith to earn his second yellow card.
A poor game as far as entertainment goes but the Nairn support will be happy that their side has earned 3 points from this game as they show no signs of slipping up in their charge up the league table. Next week's trip to Huntly will be tricky but with the return of Holmes from suspension and hopefully a few others from injury Nairn can make it 4 wins on the trot.
