It was an entertaining match packed with action and goals at Christie Park today. Ronnie Sharp brought Mark Holmes straight back into the starting XI after he served a 4 match suspension in place of Johnny Seaton on the right of midfielder.
County settled first in the match and were by far the more dominant side in the early stages. They should of been in front early on when Willie Barron headed in at the back post but the referee deemed it not to have crossed the line much the disgust of the vocal travelling support. They were back in buoyant mood though when Holmes put County in front on 17 minutes. Huntly keeper Bremer saved a Willie Barron shot from the left back to ball broke straight to Holmes who had the easiest of tasks by sweeping the ball home from less than 5 yards out. Huntly were back on level terms soon after when a balled crossed from the left was slotted home from close range.
Nairn were then dealt a major blow through the loss of keeper Michael Rae to injury. He was hurt in a collision while going up for the ball. Youngster Calum Donaldson came on in place of him and had soon lost his first County goal as the home side went in front just on the stroke of half time.
Steven Edwards came on in place of Barron up front to add a physical presence to the County attack. But it was the Huntly strikers who were called into action as they launched wave after wave of attack on the County goal. This soon paid off as they went 3-1 up after soon slack marking let Guild hammer home a shot from 20 yards out. It wasn't long after that that Huntly seemed to have sewed up the points when Andy Low made it 4 by slotting a low angled shot passed Donaldson into the corner of the net.
Being 4-1 down on 65 minutes it seemed that County were in for a very heavy defeat. But a goal from Holmes on 69 minutes pulled Nairn straight back into things. He headed home a Farquhar free kick from the right by heading the ball back across the keeper leaving him with no chance. Sanderson then cut Huntly's advantage to only 1 when he scrambled home Nairn's third on 77 minutes. Farquhar then had an excellent free kick saved by Bremner but the best chance fell to Sanderson in the dying minutes. A poor Bremner goal kick fell straight to him and left him one on one with the keeper but Bremner saved his tame shot well and Sanderson had let Huntly off the hook.
This is County's first defeat in 8 games and also adds more importance to this Tuesday's game with Lossiemouth at Station Park as if Nairn win they will be back in 6th place in the league ahead of the Coasters without using their games in hand on them.
