Match Report

County gaffer Ronnie Sharp was forced to make several changes to the side that grabbed a point from the jaws of defeat at home to Buckie last week as Alan Cormie and Steven Edwards missed out through injury while Mark Holmes was unavailable due to work commitments. In came Gareth Smith, Mo MacMillan, Neal Sinclair and Scott Kellacher. Andrea Coletto dropped down to the bench.

Both sides looked to open the scoring early on as a win for either side in this match would put them well on course to finish above their opponents in the final League standings. The returning Kellacher and Brooks were the main offenders for Nairn but Fraserburgh had the best chance of the half. A shot from the edge of the box came clattering back off the crossbar and the follow up was excellently tipped onto the post by Nairn keeper Michael Rae. This was the main action of a somewhat lucklustre opening 45 minutes.

This second half was where all the action occured. County went in front from the penalty spot after Willie Barron did what he does best, made a surging run through the heart of the opposition and into the penalty area forcing the defender to foul him conceeding a penalty kick. This was Willie's last game for the club before he moves to Sheffield and Nairn will definitely miss his blistering pace in counter attacking situations. Farquhar was given the nod to take the kick despite missing his last attempt in the Forres cup tie at the beginning of the month and showed County were right to keep faith in him as he buried this one.

The referee then proceeded to ruin a game County were more than capable of winning by severly handicapping them with some ridiculous red card decisions. Brooks was blatently kicked by Keith of Fraserburgh and got up to react to the tackle but thought better of it before making any advance on the Broch player. The referee then ran over to a situation that seemed to be "handbags at 10 paces" and sensationally and unbelieveably sent off Brooks of Nairn.

The Nairn players rightfully remonstrated against this horrendous refereeing blunder and Garry Ewing soon followed Brooks for an early shower for what he said to the official. It was later revealed that the County winger in fact recieved two red cards. When the action finally resumed County nearly went two in front but the keeper did well to stop Barron's effort.

Seaton was now sent off for County for a second yellow for handball as the referee truely lost the plot. The Broch equalized when Wymess converted a harshly awarded penalty. Milne of raserburgh was then sent packing for a second yellow for attempting to win a penalty through diving. 8 minutes of injury time followed but Nairn held out for a point.
