Match Report

A CONTROVERSIAL red card for Nairn County midfielder Gregg Main turned this derby match on its head as Clachnacuddin pinched all three points, writes Graeme Macleod.

The hosts finished the match with a man less than County having seen two players sent off but Nairn could not recover the impetus following Main's questionable dismissal having earlier seen top scorer Conor Gethins hobble off in the first half.

The home side saw captain Gordon Morrison red carded on 33 minutes for what can only be described as a forearm smash on Nairn's Stuart Leslie.

And it was Leslie who opened the scoring on 41 minutes as he raced on to Robbie Duncanson's delightfully delicate through pass to clip the ball beyond advancing Clach goalkeeper, Aiden Macdonald.

The game then turned with the dismissal of Gregg Main on 49 minutes. With the ball there to be won, the Nairn midfielder attempted to get a toe to it before the advancing Clach goalkeeper, who had thrown himself at the County player's feet. However, home defender Jamie Doran shoved Main in the back, taking him clattering into MacDonald. Under heavy pressure from the home side, referee Alan Frew red carded Main to the astonishment of the visitors.

Clach took full advantage to level the match on 59 minutes with Paul Brindle running on to a long ball over the top and guiding a low shot across goal and into the bottom corner.

The home side were now on top but were reduced to nine men with Andrew Skinner red carded for a second bookable offence after clattering into Martin MacDonald.

However, this failed to arrest Clach's momentum and they found a winner through Brindle as he was on hand to steer a low cross from the right home at the far post on 76 minutes.

The hosts then retreated to protect their lead leaving Nairn frustrated as they came away from Grant Street winless in the league for the eighth season in a row.
