MARTIN MacDonald volleyed Nairn County on their way to three points in this scrappy win over Huntly.
The exertions of Wednesday night's dogged victory at Deveronvale seemed to have taken their toll on a County side who were facing a Huntly team which had not played for a fortnight, with the hosts labouring through the first half.
However, Nairn's superior quality came to prominence in the second half with a touch of class from Robbie Duncanson - on his 200th appearance for the club - laying on the winner.
Duncanson and Conor Gethins both missed the target with early efforts before Alan Pollock was denied by the Huntly goalkeeper and Gethins saw his shot clip the top of the crossbar.
Marek Madle and Sam McKenzie had the best opportunities for the visitors but both saw their efforts deflected off target.
The decisive moment arrived on 53 minutes when a deep Gethins corner was prevented from running out of play for a throw-in on the far side by Duncanson. He whipped in a precise cross which was met sweetly on the volley by MacDonald, as he timed his run to perfection to evade his marker McKenzie and turn the ball home.
