Match Report

County fall to the Jags at Station Park as Buckie geared up for next week's Qualifying Cup Quarter Final with a victory over a Nairn side still feeling the after-effects of Wednesday night's battling performance at Ross County.

Les Fridge made one change to Wednesday night's team as the returning Garry Ewing replaced Peter Lynch who dropped down to the substitutes.

Buckie created the first opening of the match nine minutes in when a loose ball fell to Mike MacDonald and he fired goalwards only to see the effort sail just over the crossbar.

County conjured up their first chance when Iain Brooks broke free on the left hand side before driving towards goal and drilling a low shot that visiting keeper Kevin Main was relieved to see come straight at him after 13 minutes.

60 seconds later and play had swung to the other end as a Franny More cross from the right was met by a diving header from Neil Davidson that flashed across goal before going out for a goal kick.

Jim Calder had to be at his best to deny John Coutts in the 15th minute when Johnny Seaton's headed clearance fell perfectly for the ex-Cove Rangers man to smash towards goal resulting in the veteran custodian making a tremendous save from point blank range.

An opening goal was coming though and when it arived after 19 minutes it fell the way of the visitors. A Coutts cross from the left was headed back across goal for the on-running Mike MacDonald to send a volley crashing into the ground before looping into the net.

The Jags then doubled their advantage seven minutes short of the interval when Neil Davidson's cross from the left was volleyed home from the right edge of the 6 yard box by John Coutts.

Four minutes after the restart County created a great chance to pull a goal back. A brilliantly weighted pass from Gary Farquhar prized open the visiting defence allowing Scott Kellacher to run through on goal but Main got his angles right to deny the Nairn forward as he tipped the shot around the post.

The Jags then pressed forward and went close in the 56th minute when Neil Davidson broke on the left beforee cutting in and driving towards goal only to fire his low effort past Calder's right hand post.

Then on the hour mark the visitors again went clsoe when a More cross from the right was met by a diving header from Colin Milne but the ex-Peterhead striker saw his effort go over the bar under heavy pressure from Nairn's John MacAskill.

Calder again had to pull off a top drawer save when Milne curled an effort toward's the ex-Caley Thistle keeper's top left hand corner but somehow he got across to tip it over the bar after 70 minutes.

A minute later, Kellacher then headed a Peter Lynch cross from the right goalwards it was straight at Main allowing the ex-Lossiemouth keeper to make a comfortable catch.

Brian Macleod then sent David MacRae through on goal giving the on-loan Caley Thistle midfielder an excellent chance to improve on his impressive goals to games ratio for Nairn but again Main did well to make the save.

The game was killed off as a contest ten minutes from time when Milne's cross from the right was met by Neil Davidson at the back post and appeared to hit his hand before crossing the line but the referee allowed the goal to stand despite the protests of the Nairn players.

Nairn did manage to breate another chance before time was up when MacRae played the ball into the path of Iain Brooks who drove towards goal only to be thwarted by Main.
