Match Report

A WAR of attrition saw Nairn County pick up a point on a game low on attacking quality at Grant Park.

The visitors started well with a handful of chances in the opening stages. Gary Kerr could not quite force the ball home after a quick corner from the left six minutes in before the referee blew for a foul on six minutes.

A minute later, Wayne Mackintosh showed good technique to chest down a high ball at the edge of the box before volleying straight at Darren McConnachie in the Lossiemouth goal and then Jordan Macrae curled one over the bar after latching on to a Kerr feed following a quick County break.

Kerr threatened again on 22 minutes after muscling his way into a shooting position just inside the box and although his low effort bobbled in front of McConnachie, the goalkeeper did well to hold.

Mackintosh was next to threaten for County four minutes later after cutting on to his left foot but his 22-yard shot dipped just over the top left corner.

County should have opened the scoring on 33 minutes with Mackintosh breaking forward before slipping in Macrae but the young striker took an extra touch as he advanced in on goal, allowing two defenders to slide in and block his progress.

The visitors almost found a way through on the stroke of half time with Jack Maclean running to a diagonal ball over left back Ally Bellingham and getting there a fraction before the advancing McConnachie to knock goalwards but the ball trickled across goal and past the far post.

The hosts threatened on 58 minutes with Chris Ross meeting a deep Kevin Flett free kick into the box from the left with a header that seemed destined for the top corner until Dylan Maclean acrobatically tipped it over.

At the other end, Kenny McKenzie weaved his way in from the left seven minutes later and saw his clipped effort blocked by McConnachie with Jason Morganti’s diving header on the rebound being kept out by Kevin Flett on the goal line.

County should have won it in the 90th minute after Kerr raced down the left on the break and with options in the middle, he cut the ball back to Macrae at the front post but his side-footed effort was blocked on the line at the expense of a corner.

Then, four minutes into added time, it took a fine diving save by Dylan Maclean low to his left to deny Tony Ross after the Lossie full back had surged down the right.
