GARY Kerr’s red card early on in the second half swung this game in Buckie Thistle’s favour as the Highland League leaders eventually saw off the challenge of 10-man Nairn County.
The visitors were well in the game, levelling just after the turnaround and were looking the more likely team to go on and find a winner prior to Kerr’s second booking for a trip on Craig Cowie.
Jordan Macrae swung in a right-footed corner from the left on five minutes and Buckie goalkeeper Ross Salmon had to look alert to touch the ball on to the face of the crossbar with the swerving delivery poised to drop in at the far post.
Three minutes later, Chris Angus pulled down a loose ball 20 yards from goal and unleashed a powerful effort that whizzed over Dylan Maclean’s crossbar.
But Buckie went in front on 10 minutes. A short corner from the left is played back to Kevin Fraser some 25 yards out from goal and he took a touch to set himself before blasting goalwards. The shot seemed routine for Maclean until it took a nick off the head of Callum Maclean to wrong foot the County stopper and fly into the net.
Maclean then denied Chris Angus on 34 minutes after the Buckie attacker had sneaked in behind Stephen Mackenzie to meet a long ball forward and poke the ball straight at the County number one.
The visitors started the second half positively and found a leveller on 51 minutes. Mackintosh’s pass setup Jordan Macrae for a one-on-one race with Lewis MacKinnon. The Buckie defender jockeyed well but Macrae showed intelligence too to pull the ball back just inside the box for Wayne Mackintosh to lash a crisp low drive beyond Salmon from 15 yards.
A superb block from Maclean four minutes later kept County level after a neat interchange between Urquhart and Angus put the latter in on goal but the Nairn stopper stood up well to make the save.
Nairn’s hopes of taking something from the game suffered a huge blow on 63 minutes with Gary Kerr dismissed after catching Craig Cowie late to earn a second yellow card having been booked in the first half for a similar challenge on MacKinnon.
Five minutes later, a Buckie corner from the right found its way all the way through to John McLeod 10 yards out at the far post but his shot across goal was cleared off the line by Jack Maclean. The ball then came back to the Jags top scorer and this time his shot was well tipped over by goalkeeper Maclean.
Buckie went back in front on 74 minutes though. Kevin Fraser wriggled his way to the by-line on the left and his low ball across the face of goal was tapped in by the arriving Stuart Taylor at the far post.
